Shoreditch is brimming with great food spots but I had not been to The Book Club in a while and I had never actually tried the breakfast menu so Leanne, Natasha and I decided to make it our hub for discussing potential YouTube collaborations.
Usually the earliest I would be seen at weekend brunch is 1pm but I discovered that our early 11.30 start has it perks and we got a table straight away instead of joining the usual queue.
The Book Club is a spacious converted warehouse space set over two floors; during the day it is a hub for the local community with plenty of Macs and notebooks strewn across tables, as well as those who are simply catching up over coffee with friends.
For those who are looking for something a little more upbeat there are also ping pong tables available to play both day and night. Ping pong is not the only evening entertainment, the space also hosts a huge variety of events, including art, craft, talks and club nights to suit everyone’s style.
Taking a quick browse at the menu we ordered at the bar just as the day’s delivery arrived – talk about fresh! The girls both went for the buttermilk pancakes which came perfectly stacked and loaded with fresh banana, berries, honey & citrus crème fraiche & maple flavoured syrup and was an absolute bargain at only £6.
I on the other hand choose the Huevos Rancheros, which came with 2 runny fried eggs, three fried tortilla triangles, avocado, salsa and refried beans. Which was packed with flavour and was a hearty start to the day.
The menu varies from day to day as they order in fresh produce and use local suppliers.
Usually I would pair brunch with alcohol but feeling uncharacteristically well behaved instead I went for a creamy soy latte.
We spent a couple of hours talking about internet life and possible YouTube collaborations as the place filled up around us.
One of the things that always brings me back to The Book Club is its homely atmosphere; no matter the occasion it feels like you have popped round to your cool friend’s place.
